Guidelines for Reopening
 
Based upon direction received from the Emergency Response Team of the Carolina Conference, the following guidelines have been established.
 
Before reopening, our local area must meet the following criteria:
 
● 14 days of downward trend in new COVID-19-like symptoms
● 14 days of downward trend in new confirmed COVID-19 cases
● Robust testing of at-risk healthcare workers in place
 
The official date for reopening our church will be communicated as soon as possible, however, our church will NOT open until June 13 at the earliest.
 
PHASE 1:
● Vulnerable individuals* should continue to stay home.
● Attendance within the sanctuary will be limited to 50 people.
● STRICT social distancing and sanitation guidelines** must be maintained.
● No-touch temperature checks will be conducted and hand sanitizer will be dispensed prior to entering the building.
● Those who pass the health screening will receive a green lapel sticker and may enter the building.
● Face masks are recommended. Please bring your own.
● Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
● There will be no separate children’s Sabbath School classes.
● There will be no fellowship lunch.
 
PHASE 2 (after 14 days of Phase 1 with no rebound):
● Vulnerable individuals* may attend.
● Church attendance will be limited to the ability to maintain social distancing.
● Sanitation guidelines** must be maintained.
● Hand sanitizer will be dispensed prior to entering the building.
● Face masks are recommended. Please bring your own.
● Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
● There will be no separate children’s Sabbath School classes.
● There will be no fellowship lunch.
 
PHASE 3 (after 14 days of Phase 2 with no rebound):
● STRICT social distancing and sanitation guidelines** must be maintained.
● Hand sanitizer will be dispensed prior to entering the building.
● Face masks are recommended. Please bring your own.
● Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
● There will be no separate children’s Sabbath School classes.
● There will be no fellowship lunch.
 
All restrictions will be lifted after 14 days in Phase 3 with no rebound. If a rebound occurs, the direction from the Carolina Conference will be followed.
 
*Vulnerable individuals:
● Individuals age 65 and up.
● Individuals with serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and those whose immune system is compromised such as by chemotherapy for cancer and other conditions requiring such therapy.
 
**Sanitation guidelines for reopening:
● Individuals exhibiting ANY symptoms of respiratory illness must stay home.
● At least 6 feet of social distancing must be enforced.
● If communion services are held:
          o STRICT sanitation will be observed in preparing food and other items.
          o A plan to avoid handling and sharing implements will be established.
          o Foot washing will be suspended, or only observed between those in the same household.
● Individuals should CONTINUE TO PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE:
          o Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, especially after touching frequently used items or surfaces.
          o Avoid touching your face.
          o Sneeze or cough into a tissue, or the inside of your elbow.
          o Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.
          o Strongly consider using face coverings.
          o Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of illness.
